WHO IS THINK PINK
Dedicated to the support of Breast Cancer patients, the THINK PINK FOUNDATION provides in a compassionate manner a diverse range of services to assist the various stages of one’s journey including emotional and financial support. The Breast Cancer journey is an emotional and physical roller coaster and a Breast Cancer diagnosis can bring unexpected emotions, uncertainty and fear for the future, changes in personal and family relationships, and a sense of isolation – these are just some of the feelings that result with diagnosis.
It was these feelings the Founder of the Living Centre, Irene Hendel OMA, a Breast Cancer suffer understood that lead Think Pink on its course today.
In 2003 Irene had her second brush with breast cancer, and underwent daily treatment at the William Buckland Radiotherapy Centre at Melbourne’s Alfred Hospital. There she came into contact with many women who were, finding it difficult to hold down their jobs and make ends meet financially due to their Breast Cancer. THINK PINK refers to these circumstances as “cancer induced poverty”.
These patients needed immediate assistance so Irene suggested to the then Committee that THINK PINK change its focus from funding Breast Cancer research to funding projects providing direct emotional and physical support to patients and their family members.
In September 2006, Think Pink became an independent Charitable Foundation with full Australian Tax Office (ATO) endorsed Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status. Within a short time the Foundation raised sufficient funds to establish its own unique state-of-the-art, independent and non-clinical wellness facility called THE LIVING CENTRE.
Since 2010 The Living Centre has supported thousands of Breast Cancer patients and their families through its unique programs of activities and services. They listen and support in a safe, nurturing environmental and provide quality support and care. They also empower through valuable education and workshops as well as a range of therapies and services to help revitalise and restore. These include private salon for hair and wig care, cosmetic and skincare workshops, manicure and pedicure, meditation and yoga classes as well as relaxation massages.
